Tom Lowe
My passion for field sports grew from an early age, my late grandfather used to take me out shooting and following the hunt, he farmed on the edge of Bishops Stortford, he had Labradors. I started shooting at 14, then in my early twenties I had a little walkup farm shoot, I trained my parents Jack Russel to hunt and flush game, memorable times.
The first shooting dogs I trained were springer spaniels that was in 1977, I used them to go beating and picking up.
I went to work in South Africa for six and a half years in the eighties, I did get invite to a driven pheasant shoot there, not quite the same as UK pheasant shoots.
On returning from South Africa in 1988 I brought my first Labrador from the late Susan Scales, I started shooting at field trials both spaniels and retrievers in 1991, then competing in retriever trials from 2004, I have made up a FTCH, Websend Whitefarland, a very proud moment, I am an A panel judge and enjoy judging, I want the best dog to win not the luckiest, I still run my dogs and shoot at trials, I pick up regularly with my team of Labradors, I take training classes for various club through the closed season.
I have visited Sweden several times, enjoying shooting trips and judging appointments, I am honored to have been asked to judge the Swedish Gundog League Championship 2024.
